The significance of organic synthesis is attributed to those chemical reactions which involve: (i) the minimum loss of starting material, (ii) can be carried out at room temperature have simple reaction procedure, (iii) if possible to recycle the recovered reagents, and (iv) environmentally benign. Therefore, the synthetic ventures comprise of the use of green reagents, reactions and synthons as a tool to achieve the target molecule. Selective reduction of functionalized carbonyls to the corresponding functionalized alcohols is useful and important synthetic ventures in organic chemistry. Chemoselective reduction of carbonyls in the presence of other functional groups using phase transfer catalyst with facile, efficient and green procedure will be presented.
