In recent years a large variety of diverse chemistry of octafluoro[2.2]paracyclophane (AF4) has been reported, including electrophilic and nucleophilic substitution, aryne chemistry, and novel free radical chemistry. Such chemistry will be reviewed and put in mechanistic perspective, and some new, unusual reactions of AF4 will be presented and discussed within the context of the overall reactivity characteristics of AF4. Contrasts will be made between the chemical behavior of the hydrocarbon {2.2]paracyclophane and AF4.
