| Deep-cavity cavitand 1 self-assembles in basic aqueous media to form well-defined nano-capsules. It thus provides a unique system for binding and encapsulation studies in aqueous solution. We will report on work aimed at expanding the utility of this cavitand by coating it with amino acids (e.g., 2). In particular, we will report on cavitands that are soluble across the pH range, and are therefore capable of encapsulating a broader range of guests. Additionally, we will report on the assembly of cavitands that differ in the nature of R2, and discuss the properties of the resulting hetero-capsules. |
