A tandem carbolithiation/electrocyclization/alkylation methodology has been developed in the context of the total synthesis of Daphnicyclidins, which are a family of alkaloids isolated be Kobayashi from the stems of Daphniphyllum humile and D. Teijsmanni. A mechanistic investigation and application of this unique cascade reaction will be documented. A progress report of the studies towards the total synthesis of daphnicyclidin F will be presented.
