One of the most useful synthetic strategies for the stereoselective construction of both saturated furan and/or pyran moieties is the reduction of oxocarbenium cation intermediates. In this presentation, synthetic strategies aimed at the total syntheses of a variety of natural products containing a beta-C-glycoside subunit will be discussed in greater detail.
