Electrochemically switchable binding by oxacalixarene hosts

We demonstrate for the first time the utility of novel oxacalixarenes as hosts and reveals binding characteristics and forces influencing the thermodynamics of binding. The binding strength can be switched from weak to strong by electrochemical oxidation of the guests.
