The design and development of new materials with predictable and controllable physical properties is a current and challenging goal. To that end we have created a series of novel monomers and polymers bearing phosphorus containing functional groups such as phosphine oxides and phosphonates. Controlled polymerization reactions generated materials with low PDI's regardless of the size of the pendant group. Additionally, several of the materials were emissive without the incorporation of inorganic LED's. The effectiveness of microwave assisted reactions in the preparation of the composite materials will be presented.
