Functionalization of the furan ring system has been well documented over the years. Our work included chlorosulfonylation in order to generate secondary and tertiary sulfonamides at the two position. Functionalization at the four position included conversion of an acid to various ureas, amides and carbamates. Analogs synthesized are novel and have not been previously reported.
