Novel chiral imidazolines promote the asymmetric Baylis-Hillman reactions of aromatic aldehydes with alkyl vinyl ketones or unactivated acrylates, resulting in high yields and ee. The chiral imidazolines are easy to synthesize and can be readily recovered for reuse without loss of product enantioselectivity.
