Functionalization of C-H bonds through mild, selective methods holds tremendous potential to advance synthetic chemistry. However, to this point, few C-H activation methods have been applied to advanced and/or complicated substrates. A DMSO/Pd(II) catalyzed allylic C-H oxidation method for converting α-olefins to linear (E)-allylic esters will be presented. A general strategy for the synthesis of complex, polyoxygenated frameworks enabled by this method will be discussed. Validation of this strategy through an enantioselective total synthesis of a differentially protected L-hexose will be presented
