Hexacyclinic acid is a polyketide natural product isolated from Streptomyces cellulosae subsp. griseorubiginosus (strain S1013). It was shown to have interesting antimitotic activity. This coupled its unprecedented hexacyclic structure makes it an outstanding target for organic synthesis. This communication will detail our recent successes in the endeavour.
