Borate esters are important class of compound with applications in electronic chip manufacturing, chemical intermediates, catalysts, fuel and lubricant additives, wood preservatives, adhesion promoters, liquid crystal manufacturing and more. Cyclic borate esters, which are finding increased application in Suzuki coupling reaction as well as in other synthetically useful transformations, can be prepared by reaction of trialkoxy borates with corresponding diols. Steric and electronic factors play a major role in such cyclic borate ester formation. Results of this study will be presented.
