| Over the past decade, there has been extensive research on pi-conjugated organic materials because of their electronic and optical properties and their greater applications such as organic field effect transistors, organic light emitting diodes and organic photovoltaics. The performance of these devices is mainly determined by charge carrier mobility. It is reported that high charge carrier mobility can be achieved by means of maximizing pi-overlap and decreasing interplanar spacing, along with higher conjugation in the long axis of the organic conjugated materials. The highly studied pentacene, however, has its limitation of herringbone packing along with poor oxidative stability and poor solubility in common organic solvents. This presentation will be focused on the effect of functionalization on pentacene and anthradithiophene to improve the crystal pi-stacking of the molecules and their electronic device characterstics. |
