Exploring biosynthetic relationships among furanocembranoids

Recently, several structurally intriguing natural products have surfaced in the literature that can be traced to simple furanocembranoids though oxidative transformations, followed by transannular cycloadditions. I will present our biomimetic synthetic studies on these natural products, which include intricarene, plumarellide and bielschowskysin. The occurence of 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions in biosynthesis will be discussed.
