Golden age of catalysis

Homogeneous gold catalysts are particularly valuable for the activation of C-C double and triple bonds. We are particularly interested in the stereoselective synthesis of α- or β-hetero-substituted allenes and their gold-catalyzed stereocontrolled conversion (with axis-to-center chirality transfer) into target molecules of biological and pharmacological relevance. Our contributions include the first example of a gold-catalyzed C-S bond formation by converting α-thioallenes into 2,5-dihydrothiophenes. Applications of these transformations in the synthesis of heterocyclic target molecules will be also presented.
