| Water-soluble single-walled carbon nanotubes show high optical sensitivities to redox reactions and have attracted great interest for sensing applications. In this work, we have prepared single stranded DNA-wrapped water-soluble HiPco carbon nanotubes and studied their optical response to glucose at different concentrations in the presence of an enzyme glucose oxidase. The near infrared bands of the first interband transitions of semiconducting nanotubes serve as an optical probe for the determination of the reaction kinetics. Different pH values, buffer constitutions, and ionic strengths have been evaluated for the reaction. Our research suggests that surface-functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes may provide a new platform for redox chemistry-based biosensing applications. |
