General enantioselective approach for the synthesis of Pterocarpans

A highly convergent strategy utilizing readily available salicylaldehyde starting materials was investigated in an enantioselective synthesis of pterocarpans. The flexibility of the approach allows rapid access to a myriad of substituted benzopyran analogues and related molecules asymmetrically.
