Nucleation of secondary structure is crucial to the process of protein folding. In an effort to further understand these events, a series of scaffolds have been created that promote the formation of the initial hydrogen bonds of a beta-sheet. These are designed to be a minimal as possible, and closely resemble naturally-occurring secondary structures. The relative stability of these structures will be detailed as well as their potential to form larger beta-sheets.
