Chiral 4-aminopyridine nucleophilic catalysts 1 and 2 were synthesized in three steps starting from commercially available (S,S)-hexane-2,5-diol. The application of 1 and 2 to asymmetric catalysis will be discussed, chemistry exemplified by the Steglich rearrangement of 3 into 4.
