A new class of conjugated azobenzene-perylene derivatives of N-dodecane-N'-aminoazobenzene-3,4,9,10-perylene diimide (AAZO-PDI) and N,N'-bis (aminoazobenzene)-3,4,9,10-perylene dimides (AAZO-PDI-AAZO) was synthesized and FT-IR spectra suggested that azobenzene chromophore N-substituted to perylene successfully. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images displayed that the aggregation of AAZO-PDI formed the directional nanofibers of 150~200nm and AAZO-PDI-AAZO aggregated to many pieces of crystals with a certain thickness due to the g-g stacking interaction. Uv-vis absorption spectra showed that the interaction of two conjugated systems led to azobenzene chromophore blue-shifts by 18nm in AAZO-PDI and AAZO-PDI-AAZO and perylene chromophore red shifts by 5nm.
