Boronic acid modified benzyl viologen quenchers containing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents were synthesized and evaluated for their quenching ability and their ability to sense glucose. The pKas of these compounds were determined via potentiometric titration and were correlated to their spectroscopic behavior. These compounds were also used to sense other analytes.
