Novel concepts for detection and chemical fixation of CO2 are being developed. We will report on the chemistry between CO2 and amines which is used to construct novel types of supramolecular polymers and devices. Fluorescent self-assembling systems were prepared for selective detection of CO2 and its relatives such as phosgene and other toxic gases. Peptide-based self-assembling polymers have also been synthesized using CO2 as a cross-linking agent. These polymers are employed for entrapment and storage of useful guest molecules.
