 The importance of hetero-Diels-Alder reactions in the synthesis of various natural products has led to the development of numerous synthetic methods using various reagents. We have done several intramolecular hetero-Diels-Alder reactions of aldimines generated in situ from O-, N-, S- prenyl derivatives of aldehydes and aromatic amines to afford the synthesis of novel polycyclic heterocycles. These O-, N-, S- prenyl derivatives of aldehydes were also utilized in Domino Knoevenagel/hetero-Diels-Alder and Knoevenagel/hetero-Diels-Alder/Elimination reactions to furnish polycyclic compounds and lactones respectively.
