The direct addition of RX-H bonds to C=C bonds (heterofunctionalization) is one of the most attractive ways of synthesizing functionalised molecules. Our recent work in the development of cationic metal catalysts will be presented, including the inter- and intramolecular addition of N-, C- and O- nucleophiles to functionalized/ unfunctionalized prochiral alkenes. For the addition of N- and C- nucleophiles to Michael acceptors, high enantioselectivities (up to >99%ee) can be achieved.
