The syntheses and catalytic activities of two families of (NHC)Pd(L)Cl (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) where L = acac and L = allyl are presented. High catalytic activities have been observed for these systems, even at room temperature. This activity has been attributed to the formation of a monoligated [(NHC)Pd0] species which has been unambiguously characterized by MALDI-TOF MS. Insights into catalyst decomposition will also be presented.
