N-Heterocyclic carbene Au(I) complexes as versatile alkyne activators towards nucleophiles

(NHC)AuI complexes (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) have been found to catalyze several organic reactions. Their high alkynophilicity allowed for the transformation of various substrates leading to an increase of molecular complexity in one step and under extremely mild conditions. Mechanistic implications will be discussed.
