The detection of sugars and glycolipids with novel indicators

New colorimetric and fluorescent indicators with selectivity for relatively rare mono- and oligosaccharides as well as ribosides and ribotides will be pesented. In addition, novel organometallic fluorogenic materials which allow for the detection of neutral monosaccharides at physiological pH will be discussed. The mechanistic insights gained from these studies are applied to the non-hydrolytic, selective detection of sialic acid residues of gangliosides.
