| Second-order rate constants for the oxidation of a series of organic compounds with potassium permanganate were measured. The experiments featured pseudo-first order conditions and the organic substrates are all common pollutants in superfund sites across the United States. This work is intended to provide information for use in in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO). ISCO is a popular method for the cleanup of underground chemical pollutants, but to date many of these compounds were not thought to respond to potassium permanganate oxidation. We hope this work will be found useful by those interested in hazardous waste remediation. |
