During the study of oxidation processes involving 2-oxazoline-based cyclopalladated complexes, we have found that the action of m-CPBA on cyclopalladated complex 1 provides bis-N,O-chelate complex 2. Compounds 2 and 3, which have a 6-membered palladium-containing ring system, were also accessed by independent syntheses from hydroxy-oxazoline 4. Despite the importance of reactions catalyzed by similar N,N-; P,P-; P,C- and N,C-palladium complexes, only a paucity of N,O-palladium complexes have been applied to catalytic processes. Results of application of N,O-palladium complexes 2 and 3 and mixtures of enantiopure hydroxy-oxazolines (cf. 4) with Pd(OAc)2 as catalysts will be described.
