Abstract- Aimed at developing water-soluble and long-wavelength fluorescent boronic acid reporter compounds, we have designed and synthesized three new fluorescent probes based on the 4-amino-naphthalimide template. Their sugar binding properties were studied by using D-fructose, D-glucose and D-sorbitol as model sugars in 0.1 phosphate buffer. All of these boronic acids showed long-wavelength fluorescent emission and significant fluorescence intensity changes upon sugar addition. The structural effect on the fluorescent properties of these boronic acid compounds will be discussed.
