New methodologies for the synthesis of H-phosphinate compounds are reported. The reactions constitute a new catalytic P-C bond formation between allylic electrophiles (e.g. acetates, carbonates, halides) and hypophosphorous acid derivatives. The scope and mechanistic aspects of the process will be discussed. These reactions offer new approaches for the preparation of organophosphorus compounds.
