3,4-Dihydroquinolin-2(1H)-ones have potential biological and pharmacological significance. We have recently shown that enantiomerically pure benzothiazines can be synthesized via a completely selective, intramolecular addition of sulfoximine-stabilized carbanions to an α,β-unsaturated esters. We now present benzothiazines as templates for making a series of enatiomerically pure 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2(1H)-ones.
