The microwave deprotection of select aromatic 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol alkynes has been investigated. The reaction has been optimized for temperature, solvent, time, and base. Reaction times are generally less than two minutes, yields are high for a broad spectrum of substrates, and workup of the crude reaction mixtures is straightforward.
