The synthesis of metal (II) 4, 9, 16, 23- substituted phthalocyanine derivatives (Figure 1) with iron, cobalt, nickel, and zinc as the metals are examined. The R group is an aryl sulfonic acid derivative. The structural characterization was done by elemental analysis, IR and UV spectroscopy. The phthalocyanines are attached to the end of a carbon electrode and the electrodes are tested for their sensitivity in detecting thiol compounds.
