| The construction of nano-objects from DNA has evolved greatly from the original topological nucleic acid structures first devised by Seeman. Novel architectures incorporating a variety of functional vertices have since been constructed for the generation of functional materials composed of DNA. Our research hopes to expand this library of architectures with the addition of a novel class of functional DNA networks; those that are supported by intercalating molecular squares. Our design encompasses the use of supramolecular platinum DNA intercalation agents to drive the organization of DNA duplexes on the nanoscale. Synthesis of the mono-metallic, [Pt(PIP)(py)2]2+PF6 (PIP=Phenanthroimidazole), and the molecular square complex, [Pt(4,4'-dipyridyl)(PIP)(OTf)2]4,and their respective interactions with DNA will be presented. |
