Several Z-vinyl iodides were prepared by reduction and iodinolysis of homopropargyl alcohols. Lithium aluminum hydride was used as both metalating agent and reductant. The reactions were largely dependent on the structure of the homopropargyl alcohols. For each substrate, reaction conditions were optimized for temperature and time. The scope and limitations will be discussed.
