| Carbon dioxide and 2-(acetoxymethyl)-3-(trimethylsilyl)propene participate in a palladium-catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition reaction to form a g-butyrolactone in good yield under mild conditions (1 atmosphere of pressure and 50 degrees). This paper will discuss the factors leading to successful product formation, and our efforts at uncovering the scope, selectivity, and mechanism of this reaction. |
