Convenient synthesis of 5-substituted-2-amino-1,3,4-oxadiazoles using microwave heating

A two-step, one-pot method for the microwave-assisted synthesis of 5-substituted-2-amino-1,3,4-oxadiazoles starting from a hydrazide and isothiocyanate is described. The subsequent ring closure was performed using solid phase-supported carbodiimide as reagent. This method dramatically shortens the reaction times from days to minutes.
