| A new class of two-component low molecular-mass organic gelators (LMOGs) that form thermally reversible organogels with non polar and polar organic liquids is reported. The LMOG systems consist of and alkyl phosphonate ester (1 or 2) and an inorganic compound containing Fe (III) or Al(III). Interaction of the phosphonate ester and metal ion leads to complexation followed by the formation of what appears to be aggregates that resemble giant worm-like micelles. Gelation properties of these LMOGs in different liquids have been examined. Analyses of these results and structure/solvent correlations will be provided. |
