The halogen-metal exchange reaction is the most general approach for the preparation of functionalized organometallics. We will describe novel methods allowing to catalyze these exchange reactions allowing a very efficient preparation of a broad range of polyfunctional Mg-organometallic reagents. Applications to the synthesis of polyfunctionalized arynes and addition reactions of heteroatomic nucleophiles to these reactive intermediates will be shown.
