Abstract: We attempted the synthesis of a linear polyphosphonium salt using the radical of reaction aryl iodides phenylphosphines. 1,4-Bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene was prepared according to a literature method. Equimolar solutions of 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene and 1,4-diiodobenzene in acetonitrile-d3 and benzene-d6 were illuminated with a 450-W medium pressure Hg arc. We anticipated a mechanism in which UV photolyzes the C-I bonds forming radicals which attack the phosphorus of the 1,4-bis-(diphenylphosphino)benzene. |
