Water is demonstrated to be an excellent medium for the Wittig reactions employing stabilized ylides and aldehydes. Several examples, comparisons, and applications using the Wittig reaction using in water will be presented. Solubility of the reagents and substrates in water is not a vital characteristic to achieve good chemical yields and E/Z-ratios of the desired products.
