The enantioselective syntheses of metabotropic glutamate receptor ligands, (S)-AIDA and (S)-APICA are described. The direct organocatalytic amination of various indane carboxaldehydes was the key step allowing for the multi-gram preparation of the corresponding adducts in >99% ee.
