Resorcinarene-based multidentate ligands have been used in various metal complexation studies including the controlled growth of nanoparticles. Thiol functionalized ligands are of particular interest due to their enhanced ability to coordinate with d-block transition metals. We have prepared model ligands with multiple thiol and amine functional groups capable of metal coordination. We will present the preparation and characterization of these simple model ligands, as well as the more complex multidentate resorcinarene-based ligands. The metal complexation behaviors of the model ligands and resorcinarenes will also be discussed.
