| Pyridine-containing compounds are well known ligands in transition metal chemistry. We recently found that organosilicon ethynylpyridines form crystalline complexes when reacted with silver salts. We have continued to investigate the synthesis of new ethynylpyridine ligands. Deprotonated 2- and 3-ethynylpyridine reacted with acid chlorides and other carbonyl compounds to form the corresponding bis(ethynylpyridyl) alcohols. The newly synthesized ligands were isolated and characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Crystalline ligands were also characterized by X-ray crystallography. |
