A good combination of NBS/CHCl3 for the bromination of the electron-rich naphthalene system was discovered. By using NBS/CH3CN, NBS/CHCl3 as bromination reagents, 2,6-dibromotetramethoxynaphthalene and 2,6-dibromonaphthazarin were synthesized from the 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene.
