Six new undescribed diterpenes have been isolated from Colombian specimens of the gorgonian octocoral Pseudopterogorgia bipinnata. Compounds 1 - 4 are representatives of the pseudopterane family and are characterized by the presence of a 3(2H)-furanone. The remaining metabolites are members of a new cembrane-derived diterpene family possesing a novel spiro [9.4] tetradecane carbon framework. Their chemical structures and relative stereochemistry were elucidated by NMR and MS experiments. The isolation, structure determination and biological activity of these metabolites will be discussed in detail.
