A stent is a small expandable metal tube that acts like a structural scaffold holding an artery open and allowing blood to flow to the heart. The CYPHER® Sirolimus-eluting Coronary stent combines a proven metal stent with Sirolimus, an immunosuppressive-type medication. Sirolimus helps to limit normal tissue overgrowth following coronary stent implantation. Chemical aspects of the manufacture of CYPHER® Sirolimus-eluting Coronary stents will be discussed.
