Complexes of the form TpW(NO)(PMe3)(η2-thiophene) (Tp = hydridotris(pyrazolyl)borate) have been synthesized. The thiophene complexes can be protonated at C(2) and the kinetics and thermodynamics of protonation and subsequent deprotonation have been investigated. The thiophene complex can undergo hydrogenation, producing a 2,3-dihydro-thiophene. Sulfur-carbon, sulfur-oxygen, and carbon-carbon bond forming reactions have also been explored.
