Functional monomers for the incorporation of triphenylarsine and triphenylphosphine groups into polystyrene polymers have been synthesized and used in the preparation of both non-cross-linked (linear, soluble) and cross-linked (insoluble) polystyrene. Applications of the polymers as both nucleophilic catalysts in aza-Baylis-Hillman and as ligands in palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling reactions will be described. Additionally, the relationships between polymer backbone and loading level, and reagent utility will be discussed.
